Data Recovery Services
Data recovery is the delicate process of retrieving seemingly lost data from a computer, phone, camera or other electronic device. The main concept behind data recovery is that the data is not actually “lost”, but rather just hidden from view. For the most part, it’s difficult for the everyday person with limited computer knowledge to retrieve lost data on their own. This is why most people opt to pay for professional data recovery services.
Data recovery services come in many different forms. In some cases, you may simply be able to download a piece of software for a fixed cost. In this case, you’ll be able to install the software on your device, most likely a computer, and retrieve your lost data. This of course would be assuming that you’re able to start and run your computer. In the even that your computer or other electronic device has completely crashed, you’ll more than likely have to opt to recover the data professionally.
Professional Data Recovery Services
Professional data recovery services can either be done on site – meaning that the company will come to you; or they can be done off site – meaning that you will have to drop your computer off at a local shop or in some cases, mail it to the data recovery company.
To hire a professional, you’re going to have to shell out some bucks. On the low end, data recovery services may set you back $50. On the high end, you could be looking at thousands of dollars. For a large company that had their servers or multiple computers crash, you could be looking at tens of thousands of dollars worth of work before you’ll ever see that data again. Even in that case, there’s no guarantee that the services will be able to successfully retrieve all your data – if any.
Once you get a quote from a data recovery specialist, you need to ask yourself: is it worth it? Can I do without those old high school term papers or last night’s pictures? I only say this because it’s not uncommon for the cost of the service to exceed beyond the value of the computer or electronic device itself. Is it worth it to pay $800 to recover data from a $600 laptop? That’s completely up to you.
